Sources of funding: printed, hard budgets, existing instructional funds in colleges, departments (reallocated to program), grants, gifts, endowments (communicate with development officers, alums); collaborative grants with other disciplines that include writing (e.g., NSF, NEH, Howard Hughes Medical Institute), collaborations with teaching cdenters, writing cdenters, recruiting, public affairs, information technology centers, etc. In other words, the Director spends most of his/her time in meetings building support and funding, at least at my institution.
